Arrow Park Hospital Dry Riser Installation

The Brief

New dry risers systems at Arrow Park Hospital.

This project was part of the construction of a new urgent and emergency care facility at Arrowe Park Hospital. The estimated £28m upgrade is the biggest investment at the hospital since it was built over 40 years ago. The complete project will entail a comprehensive overhaul of the existing Emergency Department, operated by Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH), and the Urgent Treatment Centre.

Evacuating a hospital in a fire is complex. Patients are venerable for a host of reasons. They may be dependent on machines, have limited mobility, compromised respiratory systems etc. Reliable fire safety infrastructure and equipment is vital in these settings. 

 

Project Details

Project involved the installation of 5 dry risers with a 300-meter horizontal feed. It was subject to strict Health and Safety (H&S) rules, including restrictions on engineers carrying pipes on their own etc.

Work had to be carried out during weekends and outside of normal working hours to mitigate noise pollution.

Also, experienced three significant alterations as it progressed, and the client had high expectations for a quick turnaround.

Effective project management, communication, and problem-solving skills was critical.
